A Guide to Twitter Etiquette

In November last year Digital Marketing Exec. Brian Honigman posted a blog with ‘100 Fascinating Social Media Statistics and Figures from 2012’. To mention just a few astounding facts:
  • There were 175 million tweets sent from Twitter every day in 2012
  • The average Twitter user has tweeted 307 times
  • Twitter is projected to make a total of $540 million in advertising revenue by 2014
  • 34% of marketers have generated leads using Twitter
  • The most followed brand on Twitter is YouTube with 19 million followers
This shows just how big and popular social media, Twitter in particular, is. To support my point further, Honigman’s blog was:
  • Liked 2,300 times
  • Shared on Facebook 1,180 times
  • Tweeted 3,358 times
  • Shared on Google+ 333 times
  • E-mailed 206 times
At Intersperience we have recently completed a study focusing on the use of social media and consumers’ perception of the contact etiquette and interaction via social media they expect from businesses. Based on our findings, this is our guide to Twitter etiquette for businesses:
